Performance verification, not a guess at accuracy

A CMM calibration sold in this market is almost always a performance verification against ISO 10360-2 or ASME B89.4.1, run alongside geometric adjustment and, where the controller allows it, an update to the volumetric error map.

As-found data is captured before any adjustment. Certificates are issued under the performing laboratory's ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation scope, with results traceable to the SI through NIST.

Built around large-envelope machines

Milwaukee's base of machinery builders and heavy equipment manufacturers runs bridge and gantry CMMs sized for weldments, frames and gearbox housings, not bench-top production gauging.

Work covers on-site verification at the machine and ship-in service for portable arms, granite plates, gauge blocks and ring and plug gauges.

Service areas across Wisconsin and the Greater Midwest

On-site coverage runs from Milwaukee through Waukesha, Racine, Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, Oshkosh and Green Bay, with routine stops in West Allis, Wauwatosa and Franklin.

Ship-in service is available outside that radius for machines and artifacts that can be crated and freighted.

Why Milwaukee CMM Calibration and Repair

  • 01

    As-found before adjustment

Deviations are recorded against specification before any geometric correction is made.

  • 02

    Scope checked first

The laboratory's accredited scope is matched to the machine before a quote is issued.

  • 03

    On-site or ship-in

Bridge and gantry machines are verified in place; arms and gages can ship to depot.

  • 04

    Repair and re-verification

Crash recovery, scale and probe repair are followed by full re-verification, not a spot check.

Common questions

What is the difference between calibration and verification?

Calibration establishes the relationship between a machine's readings and reference values with a stated uncertainty. Verification checks whether the machine still meets a stated specification, such as ISO 10360-2. Most CMM work sold under 'calibration' is verification.

Can the CMM be verified on-site, or does it need to ship out?

Bridge and gantry CMMs are almost always verified in place, since the machine and its foundation are part of the measurement. Portable arms and gages can ship to a depot when that suits scheduling better.

What happens if the machine fails the as-found test?

As-found deviations are recorded before any adjustment. Out-of-tolerance findings are reported before correction, so an impact assessment back to the last passing certificate can be run if required.
